Coast and inland valleys
The coastal plain — Oxnard, Ventura, Port Hueneme, Camarillo and the strip down to Carpinteria — sits in a mild coastal zone shared with the Los Angeles beach cities. Inland and east, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks and the Santa Clara River valley toward Fillmore and Santa Paula sit in a warmer zone.
Ojai, tucked into its own valley behind the coastal range, sits with the inland group rather than the coastal one despite being close to the water in a straight line.
A short distance for a real difference
Oxnard and Simi Valley are about forty minutes apart and are assessed against noticeably different conditions — the first moderated by the ocean year-round, the second a valley with hotter summers. Glazing and cooling decisions that work on the coast do not automatically work inland.
