CF1R-ENV-02-E, ENV-03-E and ENV-04-E: The Worksheets Behind Your CF1R

CF1R-ENV-02-E is the area weighted average calculation worksheet, ENV-03-E is the solar heat gain coefficient worksheet, and ENV-04-E is the solar reflective index worksheet, which the compliance manual also calls SRI-WS. They support a prescriptive CF1R. With the performance route, only the registered CF1R-PRF documents go on the plans.

Why extra sheets turn up

Appendix A of the single-family manual lists five envelope worksheets: ENV-02-E, ENV-03-E, ENV-04-E, ENV-05-E (alternative default fenestration procedure) and ENV-06-E (interior and exterior insulation layers). Depending on the approach, the permit package may add the first three beside the CF1R itself.

ENV-02-E: averaging by area

Some windows, glazed doors and skylights may miss the prescriptive U-factor or SHGC, provided the area-weighted average meets it. This is the sheet where that arithmetic is shown. Separately, the mandatory ceiling is a weighted average U-factor of 0.40, and up to 10 square feet of glazing, or 0.5 percent of floor area if that is larger, is exempt from it. Unrated site-built glazing that uses the NA6 default procedure goes on ENV-05-E, and may still miss the prescriptive values even after averaging, which pushes the job to the performance route.

ENV-03-E: the SHGC numbers

The sheet is titled Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) Worksheet. The manual lists it among the sheets that may join a prescriptive permit package, and the plans examiner checks the SHGC values from the CF1R against the window schedule on the drawings.

ENV-04-E: roofing and SRI

  • A roofing product needs a certified, labelled aged solar reflectance and thermal emittance. Uncertified asphalt shingles default to 0.08 and 0.75, and other products to 0.10 and 0.75.
  • If only the initial reflectance is listed, the aged value is 0.2 plus the soiling resistance multiplied by (initial reflectance minus 0.2), with 0.65 for field-applied coatings and 0.70 for other products.
  • SRI may replace the two separate numbers. It is calculated under ASTM E1980-11 (2019), from the aged reflectance, at a moderate wind speed of 2 to 6 meters per second.
  • On an alteration the roof limits apply when more than 50 percent of the roof is replaced.

The cool roof limits themselves are on the reroofing page. Worksheets in context: how to read a CF1R, window replacements, roof and insulation work and the CF1R page. Our residential reports include the worksheets your department asks for.
