Commercial Track Lighting Title 24 Requirements
Track lighting is not counted by the heads clipped onto it. For modular track and plug-in busway the Standards count the greater of 30 watts per linear foot or the rated wattage of all luminaires, unless a compliant current limiter or listed overcurrent panel sets the figure. Those devices carry marking rules, and raising their rating voids the compliance.

How the wattage is counted
Section 130.0(c)6 covers modular systems that let luminaires be added or relocated without altering the wiring. The wattage is the greater of 30 watts per linear foot of track or plug-in busway, or the rated wattage of every luminaire in the system. A 20-foot run is counted at 600 watts even if only three 12-watt heads are fitted, which matters for a display wall designed to grow.
A current limiter changes the number
Line-voltage track on a track lighting integral current limiter, or on a dedicated supplementary overcurrent protection panel, is counted at the limiter's volt-ampere rating under UL 1077, or at the sum of the protective device ampere ratings times the branch circuit voltages. Low-voltage track fed by a driver or transformer is counted at that device's maximum rated input wattage.
Marking rules inspectors check
A limiter is recognized only if its VA rating is marked where it can be seen without opening cover plates, permanently on the breaker and on a factory label inside the wiring compartment, and it carries a warning against tampering. The panel it feeds must carry a notice that devices may be replaced only with the same or lower amperage. A supplementary overcurrent panel must be listed and labelled as for track lighting Energy Code compliance only (110.9(c) and (d)). Adding track or fitting a higher rating voids the certification and needs resubmittal to the building department.
Track in a display scheme
Retail and gallery layouts often claim wall display allowances for track. Qualifying wall lighting must be mounted within 10 feet of the wall, and any portion of track more than 10 feet away does not count (140.6(c)2G). Track luminaires must also sit within the applicable area to earn a power adjustment factor (140.6(a)2D), and display lighting needs separate control from general lighting (130.1(a)3).
Allowances are under lighting power allowance and retail layouts on retail tenant improvements. Linear sources differ; see LED tape and linear lighting. Track layouts can be reviewed from the commercial page.

Frequently Asked Questions
For modular track the Standards use the greater of 30 watts per linear foot or the rated wattage of all luminaires, unless a compliant current limiter or listed overcurrent panel sets the wattage.
Not under an existing limiter or panel rating. Adding track or raising the rating voids the certification and needs resubmittal.
